Sliding Vane Pumps

Sliding Vane Pumps

These pumps have a number of vanes that are free to slide into or out of slots in the pump rotor. When the pump driver turns the rotor, centrifugal force, push rods, and/or pressurized fluid causes the vanes to move outward in their slots and bear against the inner bore of the pump casing forming pumping chambers.

As the rotor revolves, fluid flows into the area between the vanes (pumping cambers) when they pass the suction port. This fluid is transported around the pump casing until the discharge port is reached. At this point the fluid is squeezed out into the discharge piping.

Process Applications

Many of the chemicals used in industrial process applications are difficult to handle, often toxic or corrosive in nature, difficult to seal, and expensive to purchase. These materials pose some of the most demanding pump service of any industry. Blackmer sliding vane pumps are available in compatible materials with shaft sealing options that make them the products of choice for many chemical process applications.

The sliding vane operating principle imparts a very low rate of shear to the material being handled and provides a smooth, almost pulsationless flow. Sliding vane pumps "self-adjust" to compensate for "normal wear," providing like-new pump performance over the life of the product. When repairs are required, maintenance is a simple, requiring few tools and minimal training to ensure proper performance.

Energy Applications

Known as the global leader in petroleum flow solutions, Blackmer pumps and compressors are widely used to load, transfer, unload and meter petroleum and gases. Blackmer stationary and truck pumps are highly reliable, easy to maintain and considered the world's most effective pump technology for moving thin and medium viscosity petroleum-based liquids.

Blackmer liquefied gas pumps offer superior performance when handling propane, CO2, and many industrial gases. Utilizing Blackmer's unique sliding vane design, these positive displacement pumps offer the best-combined characteristics of sustained high-level performance, energy efficiency, trouble-free operation and low maintenance cost.

The pump liner is designed with a special cavitation suppression feature for optimum performance. This feature "cushions" the effects of collapsing vapor bubbles within the pump, sharply reducing the noise, vibration, and wear normally caused by entrained vapors.

These pumps are equipped with replaceable liners and end discs and can be rebuilt for like-new performance. Symmetrical bearing support assures even loading and extended bearing life verses a cantilevered design.

Transport Applications

From thin liquids and liquefied gases to viscous products and abrasive materials, Blackmer sliding vane technology has a proven history in truck-mounted applications. The sliding vane design compensates for normal wear in the pumping chamber ensuring "like new" pump performance throughout the life of the product. Higher pumping capacities at lower speeds increase the service life for our products. With a variety of construction materials and shaft sealing options, Blackmer has the products to boost productivity, lower operating cost, and reduce maintenance downtime.

Military & Marine Applications

Sliding vane pump technology is ideally suited for shipboard pumping applications that often include long, tortuous piping runs, high suction lift requirements, and confined equipment mounting areas.

Blackmer's sliding vane pumps are self-priming, easy to maintain, and mechanically efficient. The sliding vane design compensates for normal wear in the pumping chamber ensuring "like new" pump performance throughout the life of the product.

The HXL, XL, and MLX pumps are ABS type approved for shipboard duty and other models meet either Mil-P-19131 or ASTM F1510.

Blackmer products are also supplied for many shore based and mobile equipment applications though out the U.S. military and around the world. With a variety of construction materials and shaft sealing options, Blackmer has the products to boost productivity, lower operating cost, and reduce maintenance downtime.
